I´m still here
The film certainly needs no further explanation. Joaquin Phoenix decides to stop with the film, growing a beard and keg and to work with music, and the whole world against him.
A Mascot program with David Letterman "Late Show" is transformed as soon asPhoenix sits beside the TV host to the worst kind of humiliation TV. It has never beenclearer that if you want to succeed in Hollywood you have to follow the rules of the game,or you will be smoked. It's not just Letterman who mock Phoenix, Ben Stiller, will merge with a host of television reporters and ordinary people, whose irrelevant opinions are all over the web, to crush the poor Phoenix.
We follow the Phoenix when he does drugs, recording music and arguing with friends. And following is the key word here. Affleck's camera is constantly present to record thePhoenix's metamorphosis from handsome nice guy to paranoid and manic-depressiveslob. Performances is undoubtedly one of cinema's most impressive. Christian Balesweight declines are pale in comparison.
The question is whether the film is a documentation of something bigger (JoaquinPhoenix's transformation) or whether the film is more important than performance.Actually, one could see it as that Phoenix has made in recent years as a giganticperformance, and this aspect of the movie is really powerful. This spectacle has createdboth entertainment, debate and discussion.
Casey Affleck's movie highlights some of the subjects Phoenix arises only himself, but other ports in the periphery. But "I'm still here" is an entertaining piece of film, which says a lot about today's celebrity cult, and all "Complior-fuckin-cations" it brings with it.
movie of the day: winter´s bone
It´s one of the best movie ever.
Seventeen-year-old Ree (Jennifer Lawrence) lives with her two younger siblings and hishopelessly ill mother in the middle of nowhere in Missouri. The family lives say the least, spartan, but seems nevertheless to make ends meet financially - until one day, as aguarantor peeking over. He announces Ree that her father left the house as bail and thatthey will lose it if he did not show up for his trial. Ree now have a week to locate a drug dealer of father and save the family's house.
As shown in the brief summary is Ree facing a tough challenge. We are on a desperate, brutal and desperate hunt; 100 minutes continuous power with an uncertain end.
Jennifer Lawrence won the award for best young actress during the Venice Film Festival2008 for his role in Guillerma Arriaga's debut film "The Burning Plain". With his role in"Winter's Bone" is establishing her name as one of the most promising actresses today.Lawrence naturalistic method of acting, which she performs with total presence, makesus as close Ree as one could get a fictitious personality. This is a budding star that willshine for years to come.
But "Winter's Bone" is so much more than just Jennifer Lawrence. The film is shot onlocation in Missouri, and the authentic atmosphere that it provides is invaluable. Indiefilms have been because of this, a dimension of intimacy that most "studio movies" can never attain, not even the good ones.
It takes great talent from all involved to create a good movie with a small budget (about$ 2,000,000). Directed by Debra Granik, whose debut film "Down to the Bone" also wonthe Sundance (this time for Best Director), has been stirring up any shred of talent froma relatively omeriterad ensemble of actors and created a masterpiece. Add the magic of music by Dickon Hinchliffe ("Red Riding: 1980") and you have the festival's delights.
